Research Paper (300 points):

Students are required to write a six page research paper on any topic related to small business management. Topics include, but are not limited to, running a small business, marketing a small business, financing a small business, writing a business plan, entrepreneurship, family small businesses, or any topic related to the material from the textbook. Keep in mind that the subject of the paper must be related to small business.

In writing the paper, make sure that you discuss all of the relevant concepts associated with the topic. It would also be a good idea to provide some real-world examples of the concept that explain how it is used by entrepreneurs and how it relates to any experiences that you may have had.

Students must use at least four research sources that can come from the Internet, books, the libraries online resource material, or other sources. Of the six required sources only two of them can be web sites.

Students are PROHIBITED fromusing http://www.wikipedia.com as an information source.

The research paper must be typed in the APA format, and must meet college standards. The format requires that you use the Times Roman font style with 12 point font, double spacing, 1 inch margins, and indent the first line of every paragraph. The format also has special requirements for writing the Reference Page. Here are the instructions for formatting it:

Students must not plagiarize material from another source. Students who plagiarize material will receive a zero for the assignment. According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to “plagiarize” means:

1. To steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own.
2. To use (another’s production) without crediting the source.
3. To commit literary theft.
4. To present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.

In order to evaluate the research paper for plagiarism students will utilize turnitin.com. Turnitin is an Internet based plagiarism detection service.

The Research Paper must be written in the following format:

Title Page (1 page)

Body of Text (6 pages)

References (List all of your sources and cite them) (1 page)

REFERENCES: Students must have at least four sourcesand each source must be cited in the paper. One source must be from a peer-reviewed journal; The remaining 3 sources can be any combination of non-peer reviewed sources, the textbook; other books;magazines; newspapers; or Films on Demand. Students CANNOT use websites, including www.wikipedia.com

In the planning and writing phase of the project, I recommend that students utilize the services of the “Writing Cafe.” The writing café provides free help with any phase of the writing project.

The café will provide help with the planning and organizing of the paper, creating and editing a draft, using APA formatting, citing sources, and completing the final draft. It is located in the College Success Center in ED 224. Contact them for their Fall 2017 hours of operation.
