Crohn Disease

Is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the bowel, involves any region of the gastrointestinal tract from the mouth to the anus. The swelling and inflammation can go deeply into the lining of the bowels. This can be very painful and can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea and decrease appetite. The inflammatory process tends to be eccentric and segmental, often with skip areas (normal regions of bowel between inflamed areas). Complications of Crohn’s disease include: blockage of the intestine, sore and ulcers in the affected area or surrounding tissue as the bladder, nutritional deficiencies anemia, arthritis, skin problems, kidney stones, gallstones or other disease of the liver and biliary system.

Both men and woman can have Crohn’s disease, this disease can also run-in families. About 20% (1 in 5) of people who have Crohn’s disease have blood relative with some form of inflammatory bowel disease, usually a bother or sister, and sometimes a parent and child.

They usually diagnosed in people between the ages of 20-30. About 25% of new Crohn’s disease are made in persons who are younger than 20 years of age. There is currently no cure for Crohn’s disease. The treatment involves medical care over a long period of time with regular visits to the doctor to monitor the condition. The treatment includes: drugs, nutrition supplements and surgery or a combination of all of this treatments. To mention some of the drugs to treat this disease are anti-inflammation drugs, steroids, immune system suppressors, blocker for inflammation, antibiotics, anti-diarrhea.

Is Crohn’s disease inherited, it appears to be a risk for inheriting the disease, especially in families of Jewish ancestry. Children’s who have one parent with the disease have a 7 to 9 percent lifetime risk of developing the condition. They also have a 10 percent chance to develop some form of inflammatory bowel disease. When both parents have inflammatory bowel disease the risk is 35%.

The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), since their founding in 1967, they play a role in every breakthrough in IBD research, they invest more than $384 millions into founding causes, treatments and cure for Crohn disease. The last annual report as what they are doing according with the page was on 2019 and it was a year of major new initiative and expansions across research investments, advocacy efforts, and patients, caregivers and professional education programs.

To conclude this assignment, I want to say that I find this disease very interesting just the fact that can take more then 5 years to actually diagnosed you with the disease is fascinating, and on of the reason I also pick this is because I’m one of them going under a lots of doctors visit to find out to if I have this disease, one of the fun fact is the reason is so hard is that not all the time you will have then symptoms but when you do, believe me when I say this you are sick, and also is with a proper diet this symptoms can be control as well, other reason why take so long. They are cases where they can diagnose the patient right away but for some people take longer. Even though there’s no cure right know the foundation work to find way to make patient with this disease have a better live.
