You are to (1) think thoughtfully of a message you would like to express/share or a statement you would you like to make, (2) create a tangible object that incorporates language, text, and/symbols to send your message, express the idea or emotion, or make the statement, and (3) write a careful and well thought-out essay about the object you made and focus on how language, text, and symbols can influence an audience and shape a culture. This essay should explain your choices and your process.
The object can be done in any medium, using any materials you wish. There are no limitations other than I need to be able to see it (there is a visual*), it must incorporate text/symbols of some kind that have meaning with relation to your message, and it needs to be your original work completed for this assignment (you cannot submit something you have done in the past). It must be unique to this assignment.
Specific Instructions:
1) Send a Message and/or Make a Statement: Think of a message you would like to give/express or make a statement you would like to send (political, environmental, satirical, commercial [advertising], just-for-fun, whatever) to a specific audience (choose a specific demographic to target).
2) Use Specific Words/Symbols: Think carefully about the words and/or symbols that you use to deliver your message. Consider your audience. Think about everything we have spoken about in class. Use the multitude of writing prompts and questions provided in previous assignments to guide you if thats helpful.
