You will upload/submit the ROUGH DRAFT (at least 2 double-spaced pages)
you will first introduce the essay using one of the techniques we discussed (or will discuss) in class: careful, vivid description of a scene, object, person, event, or other item associated with your topic (CDSO);( “Carefully Describe a Scene or Object.”) short sentences or sentence fragments for effect; mystery; hypothetical situation; thought-provoking quote or statement with explanation (epigraph); anecdote; reference to historical event; or other strategy designed to create interest. Your introduction should not be more than a paragraph.
Next, include as the last sentence of this paragraph an arguable, clearly-worded, specific thesis that states your position and briefly forecasts the major areas you will cover in your essay (see class notes re: “complete” thesis statements).
Third, you will support your thesis using AT LEAST THREE ACADEMIC/ LIBRARY SOURCES, quoted or paraphrased, with your own analysis of each piece of research, and cited parenthetically in correct MLA format. Don’t forget your “Works Cited” page at the end of the essay. Each supporting paragraph should have a clear topic sentence that relates to your thesis, include research to support the topic sentence, and include your own analysis of the research.
And finally, conclude the essay using powerful rhetoric to leave the reader convinced! You may want to save one of your most thought-provoking, gripping, or persuasive quotes for your last paragraph. You might also want to refer back to your introduction. And you definitely will want to rephrase your thesis so that is worded differently than in your introduction.
