1. I would use Nearpod for the entire lesson and almost all of my activities! Nearpod has the capabilities to put your powerpoints into your lesson, and also try out different activities with your students, like fill in the blanks, quizzes, and more. It allows students to use their devices to access the material and if they do not have a device, they can just look at the board because t can also be displayed as well.
2. I enjoy how many tools there are in Nearpod for the students and me. I enjoy how many tools can accommodate any type of learner. I also enjoy the different ways you can get quick and efficient feedback from your students based on how well the lesson went or what needs working on. I also liked how you can allow collaboration between the students, which can be a benefactor towards the success of the students and the effectiveness of the lesson.
REMEDIATION – If I set parameters on class assignments and assessment scores at 70% being the lowest acceptable score, then I could build in a NEARPOD assignment for those who score below 70% on the activity. Since NEARPOD allows for student self-paced homework assignments and quizzes, I could provide an in-depth review based from what was previously taught without having to create something new or novel, and then have the students test. I could either take the higher score or set the high score for remediation at the lowest acceptable score of 70%. While this would require minimal set up time, it would not take away from instructional time in the classroom or divert whole class instruction to remediation as only those in need would receive the NEARPOD code.
DIFFERENTIATION – I definitely see NEARPOD as a benefit for English Language Learners, especially in 11th and 12th Grade Reading Classes, as I could set up a lesson with more in-depth vocabulary support, an audio version of the reading, and tie it in with the Immersive Reader option. Students could take a vocabulary quiz prior to the assignment and based on those scores receive a more scaffolded approach (attaching vocabulary lists for direct instruction, addressing the author’s denotative and connotative use, and language in context). NEARPOD allows integration of worksheets, multimedia, and open-ended query which all work great with differentiation.
