Week 12 proposed argument thesis

It is all about the research! We are beginning to work on what will turn into your research paper. Your assignments for the next two weeks are all about that. First, you will pick a topic and give me a thesis to go with it. While I am letting you pick your own topic, here are my parameters:

1. Must not be involved in politics, religion or social media. 

2. You have to do some basic research on your own this week (via the BPCC online library) to narrow your topic or make sure there is enough sources to support the topic  you want to use. I will never see this research but it may be the difference in me approving a thesis, if I have questions. 

3. Can not use I or you.

4. Your topic has to do one of two things:

a. Point out a problem and offer a solution and an alternative that is actually feasible (hint if you are having trouble make the focus local. 

or 

b.  Examine an issue or concern that is attached to your career or passion.

Please remember that this is a student sample, so it’s not hundred percent correct. The sample does not have the traditional work cited entries alphabetized by last name. Your assignment does need to be alphabetized. For example, if you have a source by someone with the last name of Adams, it would go before one called Smith.

You must include 2 of the outside sources that you are planning to use for research paper. For this assignment only you may use first person in the annotation

Your outline will have two parts:

Traditional Work cited entry: example

Lamott, Anne. Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life. Anchor Books, 1995.

Annotation:

Each annotation should have a minimum of  five sentences. You must explain what the article is about and how it fits your thesis for your upcoming research paper.

Lamott’s book gives advice on how to make time and skills to be a professional author

She discusses organization and time management. These will provide support for two of my thesis points. This source will provide additional evidence of the obstacles facing a modern writer  I plan to use some of the anecdotes from her newspaper work as well.

Writing the Argumentative Essay-2

Below is a preview of the Argumentative Essay assignment we will be working on for the next couple of weeks: 

Write a persuasive essay—one that has a clearly stated thesis and presents an argument on a specific topic from the list below.  
You must use at least 4 secondary sources from the BPCC library. Not a basic Google search 

Below is a list of acceptable topics. 

· Are zoos ethical?

· Should Vaccines be required in colleges ?

· Should all schools /colleges offer a music program?

· Are there books that don’t belong in schools or public libraries?

· Are emotional-support animals a scam?

Requirements:  1500 words for the essay itself  (final draft)

Outline 700 (TEAL outline)– Rough draft 

Total of six paragraphs

Include at least two supporting points.

Use outside sources that are in MLA format and cited in-text. This means that you will need 
a work cited page and 
in-text citations. The works cited page is part of your essay and is on a separate page at the end of the essay. The easiest way to include your work cited page is to insert a page break at the end of your essay and then build your works cited page from there. Also, make sure to follow

 You must include 
four outside sources in your rough draft. I am not “requiring” an additional source for your final draft. However, it a great way to add length to your final draft.

must include a works cited page with both your rough and final drafts. 

Consider the opposition. Have a section— t
he first body paragraph in your essay. —in which you consider the opposite of your thesis—the opposing view—and explain why, in the end, you disagree with the opposition.
