Must Read Everything:

Reply to at least two classmate’s posts, applying the RISE Model for Meaningful Feedback

I will also show an example below of how the response needs to be addressed.

Here’s an example of how the response should look. Please don’t copy it.

The response to the classmate need to be just like this.

Example Response (Response Needs to be writen just like the response below No copying)

RISE Feedback:

REFLECT: I concur with “Action plans should reflect the type of services that are needed and have an idea of the expected outcome of the services” because it is in line with Hatch and Hartline’s intentional school counseling guidelines in regards to determining students needs.

INQUIRE: Can you further explain what “closing-the-gap action plans” are?

SUGGEST: I encourage you to revisit Hatch and Hartline’s MTMDSS tier interventions in order to add a citation that would illustrate your example on bullying prevention efforts.

ELEVATE: What if you re-purposed “For example, after a needs assessment, the school is having problems with bullying” as “Following Trish Hatch’s MTMDSS tier based interventions, if the school is having problems with bullying, after a needs assessment, we could… citation…”  for a more weighted argument?

Response 1- Michelle

Using mixed-method research works well in identifying appropriate academic and behavioral interventions. We have so many students, educators, and parents so gathering data in different ways is necessary. We can interview students, send out surveys to teachers to collect information. Analyzing data from different means of collecting can really benefit the quality of the research by getting different perspectives and validation. The diversity of methods gives researchers the ability to combine qualitative and quantitative studies in order to get the most valid results. The results will help us when intervening and making changes with academics and behavior to give our students the best possible evidence-based practice that will benefit them to the fullest.

From this week’s article, some of the ideas to consider would be engaging students to build on their own experiences. I think this is a wonderful idea because everyone has their own likes, dislikes, hobbies, and life experiences. Showing them how these things can relate to learning, what they are doing today, and the future, can make a world of difference. I know that it’s not common, but making home visits to build connections and relationships is a great way to build culturally responsive pedagogy. Being able to collaborate with parents so that we are on the same page is crucial. There is something about meeting family, and learning about the students who you are teaching and spending a great deal of time with… it really helps to learn about their backgrounds and where they come from. Learning about home life sheds so much light on the energy your student has. I also think the teachers/educators sharing about their lives and families can help the students almost humanize the educators.

Response 2- Angie

Mixed-method research is used to help us understand both qualitative and quantitative methods. By combining these two methods we can gather the data and cross-verify and confirm our findings through triangulation. Through this research we gain a better understanding on how we can better support our students by implementing both academic and behavioral interventions based on their needs. As counselors, we will be able to provide through understanding and be able to analyze what the strengths are to implement these practices in our school site.

For this week’s article, FACT sheet recommends that teachers consider ways to get to better know their students in order for them to improve their outcomes in their education. By expanding our knowledge about different cultures, we can better implement interventions to help meet each student’s needs. As a district we must ensure that the proper training and resources are given to our staff members for them to feel supported and be able to help our students. They did recommend that schools and districts examine student disciplinary policies to ensure all of our students are treated fairly and look over how we engage with families and communities to implement appropriate measures based on what our community needs.
