FINAL WRITING PORTFOLIO DUE August 12th Your final assignment for Creative Writing is to assemble and submit a writing portfolio. This does not mean resubmitting each and every writing assignment and exercise that you wrote for the course. Instead, you are required to submit work that you feel best demonstrates your creativity and strengths. The writing portfolio should reflect who you are as a writer. This might mean submitting more fiction than poetry or more life writing than fiction, etc. It might also mean submitting work that has a unifying tone, theme or design. You are encouraged to make selections that showcase your writing talent! Requirements: Cover page with your name and an original title that reflects the work found inside the portfolio. A one page reflective writers statement . Please see the folder below for specific details on how to write this. A table of contents with the title of each piece of writing in the portfolio and the corresponding page number where it can be found. 5 pieces of creative writing (you may want to include the name of the assignment/prompt as a subtitle), but you should title each submission based on the content. If you are submitting a piece from the weekly Ideas Workshops, for example, you will want to make sure that you have fulfilled the writing prompt and that you have polished it beyond being just a sketch or work-in-progress. While it is always difficult to know when a piece is “done”, your goal should be to submit polished writing: work that is free from stylistic errors and that has been revised to be the best it can be. How to write your One Page Writer’s Statement Item One Page Writer’s Statement As an introduction to your Final Writing Portfolio, Writer’s Statement. Your focus should be to give the reader an impression of what they are about to read. It should offer a critical reflection on your writing process. This means discussing both your strengths and challenges as a writer. It may also include any discoveries you made throughout the course about your writing process. Below I’ve included a list of questions you might want to try to answer within your statement. You do not have to answer ALL of these questions. They are meant to help you to reflect on you as a writer. Why did you take a creative writing course? What area of creative writing did you find the most challenging? What piece(s) are you happiest with? Are there any unifying themes in your work? What technique did you explore in each item in your portfolio? What did you discover? What worked? What didnt? How are the individual items related? What have you learned about each assignment in the context of your entire portfolio? What is your greatest strength as a writer? What is your greatest weakness as a writer? Which items in your portfolio best exhibit your development as a writer? Standing back from the work, do you have any new thoughts about your writing? Will you continue to write after this course?
