(1) Be between 2,500 and 3,500 words (not including references)

*You can make your paper as broad (e.g. climate change) or as specific (e.g. carbon emissions in the Canadian Oil Sands) as you like. There are advantages and disadvantages to each approach.

(2) Address the following questions:

Part one:

a) What is this issue and why is it important?

b) What role does business play in this issue? Why and how are they important to the issue?

c) Describe the key stakeholders around the issue and explain why they are stakeholders.

Part two:

d) Pick any two debates (CSR, shareholder/stakeholder, short-term/long-term, corporate power) and explain how and why they are relevant to the issue you are examining? Explain your answer in the most convincing way possible.

e) How has business sought to address this issue?

f) What has been the role of other stakeholders (e.g. government, NGOs, others) in trying to address the issue?

Part three:

g) How should issue should be addressed in the future? What role should business play? What role should other stakeholders (e.g. government, consumers, investors, NGOs) play? Use evidence (i.e. research, statistics, etc.) to support your arguments.

h) What are the potential obstacles or constraints to implementing your suggestion? Explain. How might these obstacles be overcome?
