You’ve been hired as one consultant on a team of 5 consultants to help the Canadian Olympic Team prepare for a major competition. Some of the athletes are seasoned veterans with lots of medals under their belts, and some of the athletes are relatively junior and not used to the big sporting venues. The job of the consulting team is to devise a strategy to help the athletes perform at their best in their warm-ups at this major competition (it’s a huge venue and, depending on the time, there can be lots of spectators). As a consultant trained in social psychology, you are aware of potential issues at two levels: a) issues that might arise at the consultant team level when making decisions, and b) issues that might arise the athlete performance level as a result of the varying levels of athlete experience. Explain and discuss issues that you would consider from a social psychological perspective at both of these levels, and how to limit any negative outcomes.
