Proposal for Selecting and Implementing an Operating System
I. Executive Summary
Our proposed plan on how to choose and use a suitable OS for a medium-sized publishing house – a brightbooks group. This was done as part of an intensive site survey on the existing operating system, server infrastructure, standard hardware requirement, network connection, and application used up (Gao, et al., 2019). However, after thorough consideration, we propose BrightOS should be adopted with respect of a cloud-based setup.
II. Overview of Desktop Footprint
1. Current Desktop Systems
At BrightBooks publishing, one hundred-thirty workers depend on desktop computers while performing their daily operations (Shafiq, et al., 2020). BrightOS, MacOS, and Lumix Linux are the operating systems used on the existing desktop systems.
a. BrightOS
65 employees are using BrightOS.
There are 30 BrightOS systems primarily found in the Editorial Department.
b. macOS
45 employees are using macOS.
Graphic Design Department has 25 systems that typically run on macOS.
c. Lumix Linux
Twenty users of Lumix Linux.
The 15 systems are deployed in the IT department and use primarily Lumix Linux.
2. Needs for an upgrade on desktop systems.
During the site survey, it emerged that 25 desktop systems must be made new because their hardware is too old and they don’t suit current programs. They are housed within the Editorial Department.
3. Risks and Vulnerabilities
It is essential to address the following risks and vulnerabilities:
Security: Using old operating systems might put our company at risk of cyber attacks.
Compatibility: Due to many workflow disruptions caused by some software applications not supported by the existing operating systems (Rossi, et al., 2021).
Performance: Performance and efficiency fall due to outdated computing equipment.
III. Recommendation
After an in-depth assessment, BrightOS is proposed as our company’s leading OS provider. Depending upon individual organization’s requirements that will be discussed in subsequent sections, cloud-based deployment will be the choice.
1. Rationale
a. Compatibility with Applications
BrightOS supports almost all the software applications used by our employees. This allows for smooth flow during the change process, with minimal disruptions to general business processes.
b. Cost-Effectiveness
From a perspective based on the number of end-users and overall costs of ownership, Bright OS provides an affordable solution. This is cost-effective because it reduces software licensing bills, buying of new equipment, and operations on maintenance fees.
c. Hardware Requirements
BrightOS hardware requirements are consistent with those in hand, thus limiting additional hardware updates.
d. Vendor Support
Vendor support from brightos corporation is solid and there are frequent update to ensure high stability and security of the operating environment in our company.
2. Deployment Options
a. Cloud-Based
With cloud-based deployment, we can scale and adjustable to accommodate our increasing demands. Its qualities are remoteness, enabling access, data backup, and lowering hardware control.
b. On-Premise
We maintain data privacy and security by deploying on premise, which gives us more control over our infrastructure. This could be the preferred option if there are particular regulatory necessities.
IV. Justification
Our decision to recommend BrightOS is justified based on the following factors:
1. Compatibility and Functionality
BrightOS will be compatible with our current software applications and facilitate an easy transition (Alazab, et al., 2020). Employees will be spared having any disruptive factors during their routine activities.
2. Cost Savings
BrightOS will enable us to cut on software licenses, regular hardware upgrades, and lower maintenance. This helps us achieve a general reduction in costs.
3. Hardware Compatibility
BrightOS’ requirements for hardware are in line with what we have at our disposal nowadays hence there is no urgency in buying new devices thus saving both time and financial resources.
4. Vendor Support
BrightOS Corporation excels in providing superior OS and consistent upgrade services. This enables us to maintain the security and integrity of our systems (Stević, et al, 2020).
5. Deployment Flexibility
Cloud-based deployment allows for greater flexibility in line with future modification, data security, and compliance.
Finally, we are certain that using BrightOS fits our organizational requirements and it is certainly the best option for our corporation’s future. This gives us a platform to engage in deep and meaningful discussion around the proposal to arrive at an acceptable decision for the company.
