This forum post is related to your last writing assignment (Topic Paper) due on 12/11 by 11:59 pm. The purpose of this assignment is to get you thinking about the journal article you will review in the Topic Paper. You will choose from these articles for your last writing assignment.

For the last article review, you will choose a recent empirical article that addresses a question of interest related to this course. You may choose an article from one of the listed journals or find your own. You must choose an article published in 2019 or 2020 that is related to a topic covered in class. I have included several links to relevant peer-review journals. I suggest you use these links and look at ‘current articles.’ Otherwise, there is quite a bit of flexibility in choosing an article that interests you. You may choose either an article covering a research study or a commentary/review article. See below for the initial and reply posts:

Initial Post: Your initial post should include the following components:

(a) Identify the question or topic you are curious to explore in more depth. This should be written as a clear question or statement indicating a concrete area of interest (e.g., “I am interested in current research related to emotional and behavioral disorders.” Or “I am interested in early intervention for language delay”)

(b) Choose 2-3 peer-reviewed articles you are considering for your article review. These should relate to your question of interest! You should list the full reference for the articles in APA style. For this forum post, you do not need to have read the articles. But, you should read the abstract, as this will help you determine if the article is relevant and interesting to you. Please reference the resources in “Writing Assignments” about how to write a reference in APA style and how to search for research articles, as you will need to search for these using appropriate article databases. 

NOTE: Although you do not need to read the whole article, you will need to make sure you are able to access the full article (either through open-access, the CSUSM Library, or interlibrary loan). Otherwise, you will not be able to complete the assignment when due. Again, more information about this is available under “Writing Assignments.” 

Reply Post: In your reply post, you should reply to at least one other student. Provide your opinion on which article you would choose. You can also offer initial thoughts about your fellow student’s topic or constructive feedback about the article’s relevance to our course material.
