I work in the insurance industry and I am currently very hands on with changes that our customer need to make to their policies. In the future I can see my position shifting away from the hands on changes, as customers can do these online. I can see my job becoming more analytical in the data and information that will be collected from customer changes. Due to the pandemic our office has shifted from the entire office working remotely to now a few of us in the office. I am a big believer in collaboration in person as this does has a much larger impact on the focused points. However, I can see our jobs in the future not needing to be in an office environment. In 2027 there could even be a better way to collaborate virtually to get the same impact as an in person meeting has. With the increase in technology and customers wanting to have more control my position today will be very different in 2027.
Accountability is important and must be implemented in the workforce, and the way it is done can positively and/or negatively affect workplace relationships. Accountability can have a positive impact on workplace production because if it is done well, it can increase workplace productivity. This keeps both the employees and leadership accountable because if leadership is expecting the employees to work at a certain level, leadership has to work at that same level of productivity, if not at a greater level.
A technique that I can use to keep myself accountable is consistency. I need to treat people well no matter what level they are. If I am consistent in my interaction with others, then I will have a greater chance of being consistent in my work because I want to give my best, no matter who is watching. This can be used to keep others accountable, as well. Simply being aware of other’s actions can give you insight into how another employee is treating others and their work. If there is inconsistency in their work or interaction, it will give you valuable talking points to discuss other employee’s quality of work or relational dynamics. Particularly in workplace relationships, keeping employees accountable must be done respectfully and with understanding to truly keep employees accountable.
Color is everywhere and it certainly does have an effect on us whether or not we recognize it. Personally, in my home, I choose to stick with mostly neutral colors so that my furnishings are not distracting or overwhelming. With that being said, I do have pops of color every so often. When there are beautiful cotton candy colors in the sky near sunset or shortly after sunrise, it always puts me in a good mood. There’s something about the whimsical colors of blues, pinks and purples that makes you smile and feel warm and fuzzy inside. I think that we respond in similar ways whether it is color in life or color in art. I have always believed that certain colors evoke feelings in people, and it has been proven with marketing research. Have you ever noticed that fast food restaurants usually steer toward colors like red, yellow and orange? It has been said that these colors are the colors of hunger. Spas are usually soft colors, whites, crisp light blues and lavenders for their calming effect. When I wear royal blues and deep purples, I feel confident. When I wear reds and pinks, I feel sassy. I don’t wear orange or yellow. When I wear grey, black or white, I feel put together, and professional. Art Appreciation
The violence risk assessment is a tool that attempts to predict the likelihood that an individual will commit a violent or anti-social act. I believe that it is something that should be used when you are assessing the sentence that someone should receive in the judicial system or if you are trying to decide if they should be awarded parole to join the real world again. The static risk factors are the offenders history, this predicts if they have prior offenses or something in their past will push them into violence again, I would say this is very important. The dynamic risk factors are the changeable factors, do they use or abuse drugs or do they have negative peer interaction out in the real world. This is very important because, I believe that you can be who you hang around. The protective factor would be the lower likelihood that this person will be violent, they have a positive attitude and truly have repented and apologized etc., they have good parenting skills, they have success in school, they show that they have good conflict resolution skills. I think that it is great to assess all of these things to really try our best to make sure that a bad person is not on the streets, but most importantly that a good person is not locked up for one silly mistake. I feel as though profiling technologies are a double-edged sword to the customer. On one hand, these technologies can prove to be helpful at the same time to both sides of the transaction, since the more fine-tuned advertising can appeal to the customer more, which can be similar to how Spotify fine-tunes the songs and albums it recommends to you the more you listen, and it increases the likelihood of having a good or service sold on the business end. However, the greatest concern with the presence of profiling is the infraction of privacy that it poses, as the amount of information taken and stored in these databases may become too detailed and verge into a complete legal issue. Not to mention, any possible breach of this information can cause greater liability to the marketers. Thankfully though, many e-commerce sites realize this concern, and provide a forewarning of observing the user’s trends by prompting them with consenting to using cookies or such technologies that would cater towards them, which can easily be changed at any given time by the user. At the beginning of my career I was a Deputy in the county jail. Everyone had to start there for at least a year before going to the road. We were routinely short staffed like most law enforcement agencies. One shift we were very short, so some wards had to doubled up. That equates to one deputy for 140 inmates. My sergeant at the time was newly promoted and probably ten years younger than me. He took it upon himself to work the worst ward in the jail (Bravo Four). It was the disciplinary, mental health and segregation ward and it smelled like the monkey house at a zoo. It was the most dreaded ward in the jail. We could clearly see he was also very sick at the time. We all volunteered to work it, but he stated. “He won’t ask one of us to do something he wouldn’t do.” He is still with the Sheriff’s Office and is now a lieutenant in charge of investigations.
He was effective as a leader because he not only gained our respect for working the ward, but it showed he did not forget where he came from. He was an all-around nice guy who believed in family first. I still embarrass him when I see him and tell him he was the best supervisor I ever had. I incorporate the demeanor in my leadership style. I have been told I am too laid back, but I have no problem approaching and solving a problem. Human Resource Management Methods
